I meet a problem. A question goes like this: What meaning is conveyed if "what's that in  the road ahead ?" is said in a rising tone? Idon't know the answer. Please help me.

It seems to be a straightforward question. There is something in the road ahead (in front of them). The asker is wondering what it is.
