Hi there. Im kinda having some trouble with the expression 'A lot of people'. I know that people is plural, but does the whole expression remain as plural or it is singular?

- Thanks in advance

"a lot of" is 'number transparent'.  That means it takes on the number of the noun which follows it.

a lot of tables - plural
a lot of sugar  - singular
a lot of people - plural
a lot of faith - singular
