Yes, fishes is possible and it usually means "species of fish" rather than several individuals.

Trout is one of the most popular fishes to catch.

The most common plural is "fish"

He caught a lot of fish.

There are ten fish in the pond.

We had fresh fish for lunch.

Dear is a term of endearment, usually used by older women to refer to each other when they have been friends for a very long time.  If you are with many dear friends, you can say, "My dears, let's go have lunch at the tea room." But if a young person said this, her friends might laugh at her because it is very old-fashioned!  It is not a manly form of address, either.

If you mean the animal, the spelling is deer. It is both singular and plural.

A herd of deer grazed by our house at sunrise.

The plural of cactus is cacti.

Hippopotomus becomes hippopotomi.

Most of the words have irregular plurals retain their plural form from the language from which English adopted the word.

The 'us' to 'i' plural form comes from Latin.

Many such as child to children come from German.  Consider yourself lucky.  All nouns have irregular plurals in German!

I may not agree with what you say but I will defend to the death your right to say it. Live free or die.

And some words have both the original plural form, as well as the -s form, which is probably evolving to replace the original (irregular) form.

curriculua, curriculums

radii, radiuses

nuclei, nucleuses

oxen, oxes (more than 2!)

amebae, amebas

antennas, antennae

geese (interestingly, goose becomes geese, moose remains moose and papoose becomes papooses.)

mice (Again, mouse becomes mice but house becomes houses and yet, die becomes dice.  I’m talking about the cubes with numbers on them that are used in various games.)

fish (as mentioned earlier is either fish of fishes.)

oxen (Yet, fox is foxes not foxen.)

foot becomes feet

sphinx becomes sphinges

Pronouns are all irregular and in different ways:

I-we

You-you

He/she/it-they

Wife-wives

Knife-knives

Formula-formulae

Phenomenon-phenomena

Criterion-criteria

Djinni-djinn

Life-lives

Seraph-seraphim

Cherub-cherubim

Brother-brethren

Index-indices (Is the plural of Kleenex: Kleenices? LOL..No, it’s not.)

Tooth-teeth

You're right but I hate that.  The irregulars are much more fun.  They're like the raisins in raisin bread.  Without them, you just have bread.
