Explain how perceptual set can lead to errors in witnesses’ courtroom testimony.

Perceptual set mean that you base situations on your past experience or what is suspected.
If a witness had a bad experience previously in his life that was based on what they were testifying on it might affect the way the person feels about the person that is being accused. He might say a person guilty, which they might not be. Perceptual set can lead a person to believe something that is not true based on prior experiences. Say you see the news and it stated that Pit bulls are viscous dogs and they attack you for no known reason and they attacked a little boy. But really all dogs will attack you if you provoke them or it might even depend what mood the dog is in. Its just the way its stereo typed, so when you approach a pit bull or person that owns one you look at them like they have a vicious dog and why would the own such a pet but that’s how people perceive situations from prior experience or what they are taught, seen or experienced. We all have different perceptions on things that happen in every day life. Perceptual set comes from top down processing. So what you believe and hear will effect you reasoning with testifying in court if the case involved a the owners of pit bull and a German shepherd attacked another dog the would mainly blame the Pit bull because of the media and past experience people had with pit bulls. Even if all the evidence leads to the German Shepard some witness will probably lean toward the Pit bull being the attacker.

Neenaj26,

You need to be more careful about switching from you to them to witnesss to person to you to someone to them to they and other pronouns. You need to be sure that they agree with the appropriate gender and with the number (singular versus plural). You need to be consistent throughout your message.

You also need to focus on what your topic is. Is your topic "Perceptual Set Affects Witness's Testimony" or is it "The German Shepherd Got Lucky in Being Set Free When the Pit Bull Was Wrongly Accused."

I think you need to look more carefullly at your own essay with a fresh set of eyes. Try leaving your essay overnight, and then reading it out loud. I think your errors will become more visible using this technique.

Your essay still needs work. But I thought I would make just these changes and let you revise it further. Again, be sure to read your essay out loud. You seem to know English well enough. You need to be more carefull in your writing.

Explain how perceptual set can lead to errors in witnesses’ courtroom testimony.

Perceptual set means that you base situations on your past experience or what is suspected [suspected or expected].

If a witness had a bad experience previously related to the crime that where she is providing testimony, then it might affect the way the witness feels about the accused person. She might say a person is guilty, which he might not be. Perceptual set can lead a person to believe something that is not true based on prior experiences. Say you see the news and it stated that pit bulls are viscous dogs and they attack [deleted words] for no known reason and recently a pit bull attacked a little boy. But really all dogs will attack if provoked or if it is in a bad mood. Its just the way its stereotyped, so when you approach a pit bull or person that owns one, you look at him as thoughhe has a vicious dog and why would thehe own such a pet. But that’s how people perceive situations from prior experiences. We all have different perceptions. Perceptual set comes from top down processing. So what the witness believes and had heard will affect the witness’s reasoning and testimony.
