Larry polled his classmates to see if anyone wanted to throw a party for the teacher's birthday.
Hi,
Is "polled" in the above interchangeable with "checked/looked into/investigated?" Thanks.
To me none of your substitutes would have the same sense.
"Checked" would be the closest, and would be natural. "Polled" implies a bit more formal a procedure. (a procedure which is a bit more formal)
(Note: checked WITH his classmates)
Hi GG,
Mightn't the "with" be considered optional in a casual conversation?
