Lana: I was just checking out some stuff for us to

do tomorrow. Metropolis, remember?

Whitney: Actually, some of the guys are pooling together and

getting the fight on pay-per-view. It's tomorrow.

Lana: And you gave them your money already.

Does the underlined mean they're raising money to watch a paid match?

Hi,

Yes. They are each contributing some money towards the cost.

I just saw the English subtitles from the DVD. I was a little wrong.

Whitney: Actually, some of the guys are pulling together and

getting the fight on pay-per-view. It's tomorrow.

Lana: And you gave them your money already.

Does this change anything since it's pulling not pooling?

No change in meaning.

I take it you mean no change in the overall meaning, right?

Because doesn't it (correct me if my grammar is wrong here) pulling together mean "to gather".

Therefore they are gathering together to watch the

pay-per-view and still raising money for it? Isn't that right?

I guess I'm not clear where the confusion is. The context makes clear that money is being collected, therefore it only stands to reason that those who paid will watch the event together.

I suppose you could say that it should be "pooling" instead of "pulling" and in the script it may well have been. Changes happen, actors make mistakes, time for re-takes runs out, the subtitle writers make a mistake, well you get the idea. Still, the overall intent seems clear. Several people chip in money for a pay-per-view event which perforce they will watch together.

Thanks, RayH. You won't hear from me again in this topic. Angel
