Hi Everyone,

Is there any classes in London which teach you how to speak proper English with a posh accent?

Like when US actors take those classes in order to speak British English.

Thank you

Hi Sally,
I'm sure there are some classes in the UK to teach actors some British accents. But I don't really know what a "posh accent" is, I'm not an expert on accents, especially British accents. Is that "posh accent" the same as RP, received pronunciation? Is it Stewie Griffin's accent? I don't know what kind of accent that kid has, but it sure sounds funny to me! Smile [:)]

Yep, sorry, I know "posh English" is a kind of "high class English", I meant I don't know how it sounds...
It seems it's not really RP (Received Pronunciation, a kind of accent), so I don't know who really speaks "posh", and where they speak so. I also wonder what kind of accent Stewie Griffin (from "Family Guy") has... Smile [:)]

I don't remember her accent, I'll watch it again and will tell you Smile [:)]

Hi,

I just came across the term "dead posh".  Does it mean terribly posh?  Is it just emphasis in a neutral sense or slightly derogatory?

English has many different accents. It seems that a 'correct' accent is often seen as "posh". This means that people who speak with correct grammar and what is known as 'received pronunciation' (BBC English) are deemed posh. In general it makes certain sounds unheard (eg 'r' in long sound words such as 'hard') and it always uses full mouth movements.

My Spanish girlfriend studied at a place called 'Pronunciation Studio', and she learnt a load of things that I didn't know (and I am from England.) Her accent has changed and become morer neutral after studying there, but I'm not sure she actually sounds (or would want to) posh!! .

 Good Luck!
