Possessive adjectives:

This is [my / your / his / her / our / their] [cup / book / ...].

Possessive pronouns:

This [cup / book / ...] is [mine / yours / his / hers / ours / theirs].

They are adjectives, the possessive case of 'she' and 'I' respectively.  As an object pronoun:  I saw her yesterday.  The object pronoun for 'I' is of course 'me'.

Thanks, M.M. for your help. I was just consulting my dictionary for it when u replied. But to my great surprise Her has not been mentioned in my dictionary as an adjective, but as a pronoun and determiner. In the later case its function was the same as in adjective. Could you pleas tell me the difference between determiner and this form of adjective (her pen)? Thanks.

DETERMINERS are a subset of adjectives.

The problem is The US English put "her and my" as pronouns in whatever cases (My son's text book says so). It is very confusing. And I do not understand why.
