Hello everyone, I wrote a motivation letter to an university in Berlin, I was hoping you could give me some advice on how to make any improvements. Thank you very much for your time!
Dear Sir or Madam,
In writing this letter I intend to apply to the Master's Degree on Economic Management, starting in autumn 2010. I am currently completing the final year in a Bachelor's degree in International Relations at Loughborough University.
In the previous two years my academic performance has been outstanding and my results have been the highest in my class. I particularly outperformed in Political Analysis, where core emphasis was given to quantitative research methods in Politics. My performance in minor subjects such as Introduction to Economics and Applied Macroeconomics has also surpassed by far the average class performance. In addition having completed my degree in a foreign country such as the UK provides strong evidence to ensure my success and capacity to adapt to the MEMS program.
In applying to the MEMS program I envisage to gain a more diverse academic background, my current Bachelor's degree prioritizes qualitative research methods, as opposed to the MEMS program. I am particularly keen in researching how the development of Markets leads to forming of political institutions and social constructs, which is closely related to ‘Historical Materialism'. The modules offered by MEMS such as European Integration, Bargaining Theory, Staat und Markt can give me an insight to further research, particularly in the context of the forming and the future development of the European Union. I am aware of the differences between my current program and the MEMS program and the challenge it may represent, however it is this difference that will broaden and diversify my knowledge and at the same my background can contribute to the university. I secondly intend to improve my current level of German and achieve full mastery of the language, becoming a balanced trilingual in Spanish, English and German, this will be principally useful, when applying to the Spanish embassy, where it is required proficiency in three languages. In working for institutions within the European Union, such as the European Commission good language skills in German, English or French is a requirement, and having proficiency in both German and English would advance my possibilities.
Thus for the reasons given above, I believe that I ask you to consider my application.
Kind Regards,
Jose A.
