Dear all

I wonder if you could help. I have a simple question on preposition.

Should it be "on the Mainland" or "in the mainland"?

Cheers

There are no fixed rules on the use of preposition. It all depends on the sentence.

eg. There are 1.3 billion people in the Mainland China.

eg. The northern region of Thailand borders on the Mainland China.

I never figured out why humans live IN countries, but ON planets. Is it just that they're a different shape?

When we talk about ' on ', we mean that our feet are in contact with the groundSmile [:)]

eg. Somebody is knocking on the door. ( an emphasis on the contact between the knuckle and the door )

eg. Somebody is knocking at the door. ( the position we stand )Smile [:)]
