Hi,

What is the right preposition in this sentence, 'The videoclip is on/in the cd'?

Thanks.

Yep, it should be ON. Data is usually ON a storage medium. Data on a server, on a magnetic disk, on your PC, on a DVD. But I'm afraid it's IN the RAM. Prepositions in English are a mess, I hate prepositions! Angry

You should try Italian.  They've only got three prepositions and they can mean anything and everything you want, so you never know which one is right!  Hee, hee, hee!  Stick out tongue

three prepositions???

di, a, da, in, con, su, per, tra, fra => 9 "simple prepositions"
and then you combine them with the articles

di + lo = dello; di + la = della; di + i = dei; di + gli = degli; di + le = delle
a + lo = allo; a + la = alla; a + i = ai; a + gli = agli; a + le = alle
etc etc..
and you end up with 45 "compound prepositions" ... so you get a total of 54!!! Stick out tongue

Just teasing, I know they're basically only 9! And I agree with Kooyeen about prepositions in English. Smile

Hee, hee.  I knew I'd get a rise out of somebody!  The three most overworked are di, a, and in, I think.  Poor guys.  They have to do almost everything. Smile

My point is that language pairs work both ways.  What's a headache going in one direction is almost always a headache going in the reverse direction!

So don't feel like the lone ranger!  We English speakers have just as much trouble learning other languages as you do learning English!  Smile

Thanks for the explanation. So, what about this,' Do it in Microsoft Powerpoint or on Microsoft Powerpoint?'

Thanks again.
