sometimes prepositions can be a subtle problem for english leaners. here i'd like to give a simple example that just comes into my mind.

e.g. the cost for/of/on the supplies during the winter seasons

You see this is where i often hesitate a lot as to which one to choose since each of them seems to be acceptable somhow. so please could you shed some light on this kind of choice, or give me some guidance in this aspect.

It's very difficult to give you a rule to follow. Often the choice of preposition is just a matter of learning which one applies in every situation!

For you sentence above,

The cost for - this gets used occassionally

The cost of - this is the usual choice

The cost on - no, this doesn't work
