4. Never jump to hasty conclusions.

5. He is an honest man, he lives by honest work.

6. Some birds live on insects.

7. He is forgetful, but not negligent in his work.  "Of" is more likely.  It means he does not neglect his work.  "In" his work would indicate his work habits are not those of a negligent person.  (same result, different focus)

8. She was negligent towards her duties.

9. The poor farmers were supplied with food grains.
