Hi! I have a question about Present Perfect Tense.

I came across a sentence:" How often have you consumed alcohol? "Why is a Present Perfect here? We usually use a Present Simple, like “How often do you consume alcohol?”

Thank you.

I agree with you, olga. I would expect "How often do you consume alcohol?" as the question as well.

Perhaps something had changed - the person is in the hospital, and clearly is not drinking right now, so the doctor is asking about past habits up until the time of his admission?

Yes, this is the question from the questionnaire in the research centre.
