Hi

I have some questions regarding present perfect tense.

1) Am I right to say that for present perfect tense, we usually used has/have + past participle?

2) Mary has been ill for a week OR Mary is ill for a week? Which sentence is correct & why?

Thank you!

A. Yes. If it is an active sentence, the verb phrase is 'has/have been' in present perfect.
B.  For a week means one week period of time, from now back 1 week.
In thes cases we usually use present perfect continuous, however, 'to be' is never put in this tense.
Put it in present perfect.
"Mary is ill for a week" is present tense. We do not use present tense when something happens for a period of time.

1)The verb tense expressing action completed at the present time, formed in English by combining the present tense of have  with a past participle, as in  He has spoken
