Which of the following two sentences is correct? The context is an essay prompt: "If you were a (metal), what would you be?"

"To create something beautiful out of a nice piece like me, you might need to do some polishing..."

"To create something beautiful out of a nice piece like I am, you might need to do some polishing..."

Thank you.

Hi,

Which of the following two sentences is correct? The context is an essay prompt: "If you were a (metal), what would you be?"

"To create something beautiful out of a nice piece like me, you might need to do some polishing..."

"To create something beautiful out of a nice piece like I am, you might need to do some polishing..."

Say it the first way. I also suggest you say 'a nice piece of metal like me', because to say someone is  'a nice piece' can be a sexual reference in certain contexts.

Best wishes, Clive
