I am sure many of us know popular Americah writer Hubert Shelby, Jr. Even those who have not ever read his books such as 'Last Exit to Brooklyn' and 'The Requiem for a Dream' might have heard this name. The last one was adopted into a highly successful movie directed by Daren Aranofsky.

The question is how should I correctly pronounce his last name: [Shel-bee] vesus [Sel-bee]. What is the first sound?

It should be pronounced [ SElbi ] (that's a stretched s, so "sh" like in "show")
