What does "...punched out by the hundreds" mean here?

 

Another way to look at his bags is that they are not perfect. They don’t look as if they have been punched out by the hundreds. That organic quality would diminish, he said, if he made them in Europe or Asia.

In this case, it means mass produced -- when hundreds of the same item are manufactured at the same time by machinery.
