Hi

I am prestly in an Adult Reading Class. My teacher and I are in a dispute over the punctuation of this sentence:

Teacher's Sentence: The sign read "Place Homework Here!" .

As you can see, the teacher is not putting a common after "read" and she is putting a
period after the quotation mark.

My Sentence: The sign read, "Place Homework Here!"

I think that a comma should be after "read" and NO period after the
quotation mark.

Can you please let us know which sentence is correct? Thank you very much.
