It's perfectly correct.  In AE you would more often hear "you need to put the belt on", because we seem to love ending sentences in prepositions.  [However, there are some, myself included, who would claim that this is not a case of a preposition, but rather a two-word verb.  "Put the belt on the chair" would be a preposition.]
