Hi all, what is the meaning of put on.

"The media has almost been put on trial for its coverage of the Aarushi Talwar murder case." what does this mean.

Thanks in advance

The grouping is not "put on || trial".  It is "put || on trial".

to be put on trial is to be taken to court, to be sued.
