'Answer them in person' is the part that i can't understand in the context of the sentence - help me Maj!

Now, Chris that you are married you might be able to understand that. There are certain things which in theory might sound good or bad, but only if you do them, will you know if you were right or not. Let me give you an example: You have chosen a textbook because it looks real good to you, it has everything you could possibly ask for, but then when when you actually use it you find out that it is not as good as you thought it would be. Or the other way round, one exercise that did not look very promising turns out to be just a wonderful one. Did you get my point? Sometimes you need experience to confirm your intuition. What do you think?
