What is the rule regarding quotation marks and other punctuation(namely periods) at the sentences's end?

Always punctuate once, inside the quotation mark, at the end of a sentence.


Correct:  She said, "What's done is done."

Incorrect: She said, "What's done is done".

Incorrect: She said, "What's done is done.".
