Are the following sentences correct?

1: Rain delayed the play.

What is the difference in meaning between the following sentences?

1: Play was delayed by rain.

2: Play was delayed due to rain.

They're both fine, with "the" beginning the sentences.

They are both fine as they are.

Prefacing with 'The' is potentially confusing as you could be then referring to an open air play or theatrical performance rather than an outdoor game.
