It is harder for the rank and file to think in terms of "us " versus "them" than it is at other companies.

What are Rank and file here?

What does "us" versus "them" mean?

"Rank and file" here probably refers to the employees not involved in leadership/management.
Thinking in terms of "us versus them" most likely means a competitive/antagonistic attitude between management and the rest of the staff, which could lead to a polarization between the two groups within a company.
The company referred to here is apparently relatively free of this problem.
