All of our staff members receive credit for attending workshops during the year to maintain their professional certificates.

What does "receive credit" mean here? Please advise.

They get some sort of acknowledgment, a salary increment or seniority consideration perhaps.  It's difficult to judge without further information.  Credits per se are normally awarded only to those matriculating at an educational institution.
