The function of a science is to establish general laws covering the behavior of the empirical events or objects with which the science is concerned.

About the 'with which'above, which does it refer to; 'the empirical events or objects' or 'the behavior of the empirical events or objects'?

I'd opt for event or objects as the nearest referents.
