Hi ,

I am Sri Krishna From India. Structure of simple pastence as follows:

I/He/She/It+was+verb2+etc.

for example verbs: try(v1) tried (v2) tried(v3)

According to above structure of simple pastence can any one guide me ,that bellow sentence is write or wrong?

I/He/She/It + was + v2+ etc.

Ex: I was prepared document yesterday.

above sentence follows the structure of the simple pastence. one of my friends told that it was wrong.

I would like to know the reason.

If any body guides me to clear my doubt i will be thankfull to them.

Thanks and Regards,

Sri Krishna.

Hello,

Simple past sentences do not have to include 'was', so I'm not sure where you got this rule from. Some might, for example 'she was tried in the crown court' but here she wasn't the one 'trying' she was being tried (judged), which is why it is included. She tried in the crown court is also correct, with the meaning that she was the person trying to do something. . There is a basic explanation of simple past here: http://esl.about.com/library/grammar/blpastsimple.htm.

Your  sentence should read

I prepared a/the document yesterday.
