which sentence is correct:

"I am sorry for the delay in replying, and hope ...."
"I am sorry for the delay in replying, and I hope...."

When can I omit the subject pronoun from the second sentence?

which sentence is correct: They are both fine. It's a matter of style.

"I am sorry for the delay in replying, and hope ...."
"I am sorry for the delay in replying, and I hope...."

When can I omit the subject pronoun from the second sentence? Very generally speaking, when the sentence is sufficiently short and simple that the reader has not 'forgotten' the subject by the time he reads the second verb.

{Don't think of this as two sentences. It's two clauses in one sentence. }

I would eliminate the comma in the first sentence, reserving its use here when a second subject (or repeat of the original) is introduced.

Personally, I would believe when the subject in the first part of the sentence is already introduced, the subject needs not to be repeated. E.g. Microsoft is the biggest PC software company in the world and it dominates over 90% of the PC operating software market.

Either way is fine, but watch the punctuation:

I am sorry ... replying and hope ...
I am sorry ... replying, and I hope ...

I have been looking for a similar answer and I am delighted to find this forum. May I ask something regarding the following quote?

"E.g. Microsoft is the biggest PC software company in the world and it dominates over 90% of the PC operating software market."

My question is: do we need to write this "it" or is it correct to write: "Microsoft is the biggest PC software company in the world and dominates over 90% of the PC operating software market"?

As a matter of grammar, you can certainly delete the it, or you can say instead, ...in the world, dominating...

However, it would probably be a better sentence to say ...in the world, with a dominant 90% share of the PC operating software market, rather than saying it dominates over 90% of the market.
