retired in Thailand?

My parents decided that they wanted to retire in Thailand because it possesses some of the world's most beautiful beaches.

Hi,

Do both of the above sound right and mean about the same if my parents were in Taiwan then? Thanks.

The sentences are different. The first says only that they wish to move to Thailand after retirement; it says nothing about a wish to retire, which is taken as given. The second sentence expresses both wishes, as if the option were open not to retire.
