Could somebody explain to me the difference between these words related to pharmacology e.g.
Aspirin irreversibly inhibits platelet aggregation?
Thanks in advance

.
Aspirin stops or limits platelets' grouping themselves, and after aspirin is used on them, the platelets will never recover their grouping ability.

Thanks Mister Micawber for your quick response.

What I did understand from your answer was this:

inhibits means stops or limits platelet's grouping themselves

And

irreversible means the platelets will never recover their grouping ability

So, I conculded that reversible could mean that they could recover and get back to aggregation process but irreversible means that it only will go to one direction of the process which is disable the aggregation of the platelets which causes thrombus, however, excessive uses of Aspirin could lead to bleeding disorders.

Does my conclusion is right?

I don't know of anyone here who is qualified to discuss your medical conclusions.

Something that is reversible can be put back to how it was before.

Something that is irreversible cannot be put back to how it was before.

Whether aspirin's effect on platelets is truly irreversible and whether that leads to thrombosis and bleeding disorders is not my area of expertise.

Barbara, who answers in American English. My housekeeping skills attest to the truth of the second law of thermodynamics: Left to themselves, things get more and more random!

Thanks Grammar Geek for your answer, I think I got the point clearly of the difference between reversible and irreversible; I'll write it down in my notes. I just gave an example of aspirin but I didn't intend to discuss about this drug. In reality, aspirin is antiplatelet drug and it is beneficial in preventing clot formation in sudden pulmonary embolism, one of its adverse effects is gastrointestinal bleeding.

Nice to meet you
Actually, I'm not a student, I've graduated recently from pharmacy major and I'm waiting for a job, I'm spending some of my free time to review pharmacology. It will be my pleasure to have a friend who is a pharmacy student who I can review with her. Feel free to contact me any time.

Good luck with your study (:)) Smile
