If there are ten candles and three were blown out, how many are left? and Why?

ok how about 13 candles. There are 10 that are not lit and 3 that were but blown out.

10 candles are left because "were" is past tense so there were 13 candles

there will be still ten candles.You are just blowing the candles flame not removing them.
