Hi,

Any idea what 'riverboat gambler" is? I think it is used figuratively, not of a gamble playing aboard a ship or something, but probably of a high risk taking gambler.

Thanks!

In the 1800's, the riverboat was the main transportaton north-south in the middle of the country (US).  There were a few men who made their livings on these riverboats playing poker. They are portrayed not so favorably in American cinema.  Hence the term.  This may or may not be the point of reference in your case.  Context would make it clear.
