Bad experiences take place over a longer period of time. A period of time is not the same as an occasion. Here are some occasions:
a party, a dance, a concert, a wedding, a vacation, an outing, a drive in the country, a visit to a friend, a movie, ...
to have a good time is to enjoy yourself (at/on an occasion); to have a pleasant experience (at/on an occasion)
not to have a good time is not to enjoy yourself (at/on an occasion)
to have a rotten time is informal, almost slang, 'not to enjoy yourself at all'.
Less like slang, you can
have a terrible time.

Did you have a good time on your vacation?
I had a good time last night at the rock concert.
Sally visited one of her aunts in Atlanta. She had a good time.
Kate went to the movies last night, but she didn't have a very good time because the movie was so depressing.rotten time (less informally: not ... a good time, terrible time) You cannot use
hard time or
tough time for these.
We went to a wedding reception last Saturday. We didn't know a lot of the people there, and the food was terrible, so we had a rotten time. (We didn't have a very good time. We had a terrible time.)
Bob and Sue took one of those cruises in the Caribbean. Everyone on board got sick, so they had a rotten time. (They didn't have a good time at all. They had a terrible time.)

good time and
terrible time (
rotten time) are used when you did something you hoped to enjoy and it was either enjoyable or not.
hard time (
tough time) is used when you had a task to do that required your effort, and the task was difficult,
or when you experienced an extended period of difficulty because of circumstances around you that were mostly out of your control.
