Are the phrasal verbs "run around" and "run round" the same?

Hi,

Are the phrasal verbs "run around" and "run round" the same? Here are some comments.

"run around"  is  much more common in AmE. Refers to movement in a circle or to various indefinite places. Also, pointless or foolish movement. Google gives 4.1 million hits.

"run round" is more a feature of BrE. Refers to movement in a circle or to various indefinite places. For pointless or foolish movement, I believe BrE prefers 'run about'. Google gives only 0.2 million hits.

Best wishes, Clive

Hi,

Both are heard or read, but I prefer 'around'.

You occasionally even see it with an apostrophe, ie 'round the world.
