Hi,

A very basic explanation is that you tell information but you say words. eg

Mary told Tom her name.

Tom said, 'I'm sorry, I didn't hear what you said. Please say it again'.

It can get more difficult than this, and there are plenty of contexts where it's not so clear, but that's the basic concept. If you want to write and post some sentences using  said/told, we can comment on them for you.

Best wishes, Clive

Hi,

I appreciated your feedback. My problem is when to use said and told. I don't know when to use said, said to, told, told to.

(e-g)  I said.../I said to../I told.../I told ..to

Thank you.

Hi,

Well, let's first concentrate on 'said' and 'told'. I tried to explain when you should use each of these. Why don't you write and post a few sentences using these. The we can go on to 'said to / told to' after that. OK?
