Please kindly correct my translation below :

1/The director asked his secretary to post the schedule of on -calls at night and on- calls in the day on the noticeboard so that all employees know to carry out their respective assignment.

2/ Schedule of people to be on call at night and in the day

Hi Van,

This is one of those cases where an industry has invented a noun for a special purpose (on-call) and they'll have to be the ones to decide how it should be used.

Just a few observations: if it's going to be a hyphenated word I suggest you not use spaces (on -calls/on- calls). Sometimes the plural of a special word is rendered with an apostrophe (on-call's). I'm not sure who would make that decision in this case.

There might be a small logic problem in your 2/. The title suggests a different schedule for nighttime on-call's and daytime on-call's, but the schedule itself lacks that information.

This is fine by me. I would like to see some actual examples where the hyphenated construction is used. (I don't think signs and notices follow the same rules as sentences.)

Hi Van,

You original translation sounds fine to me. I would use "on-call" instead of "on - call." Also, I would write "Schedule for daytime on-call people" and "Schedule for nighttime on-call people."

By the way, this is another observation I have. It sounds too formal when you write "Please kindly correct..." In most cases, "Please correct..." would be sufficient.
