I am writting to apply for X Scholarship for a Doctoral Study in environmental management in X City Name in X Country Name.
I will be graduated on June 2008 in International Relations from X Institution and is already graduated since 2004 in Biology from X Institution. During my studies, I have always been interested in environmental assessment, and in how these are related to the context of a sustainable development. I then conducted two research projects on environmental assessment in Country1 and in Country2.In Country1, I worked closely with a local Centre Name, and conducted field work such as field measurements, surveys in rural affected areas. The purpose of my thesis was to help local decision-makers by completing data in my area of study through a Geographic Information System. In Country2, I worked closely with a local NGO (Name), and conducted fieldwork as well including surveys and interviews. I had the same purpose of providing local authorities and stakeholders further information through a Geographic Information System. Dealing with these projects, I realized the importance of the connection between risk management, governance, and the impact of natural hazards, especially in developing countries, and has reinforced my interests in this subject. Moreover, my recent internship with X Institution gave me a challenging opportunity experiencing the daily life of an International NGO who deals with environmental disasters in the world. This experience strengthened my idea of the importance of an efficient environmental management in order to improve a sustainable development. Therefore, I intend to develop a PhD project in the area of environmental management which may enhance capacities of decision-makers and the condition of local affected people. There is no doubt that X University and their outstanding researchers in disaster management field would provide a unique environment dealing with such project. They are among the leaders in environmental management research projects, and are collaborating with numbers of actors involved in this field such as the X,Y,Z and variety of local and regional decision-makers. For these reasons, I would like to have the opportunity to develop my PhD project in X University, an incredible institution, where along my intellectual and professional growth I would have the possibility to meet and work with people from around the world. The X scholarship would provide me the possibility to conduct this research with one of the best institution in environmental management. This research would also provide me an invaluable opportunity to develop my knowledge on environmental management and on geomatics and would prepare my future career either in an International Institution or supporting decision-makers in my country – Country Name – using my knowledge.
