Hi,

What does 'Are you seeing someone' mean?

Does that mean 'do you have a boyfriend/girlfriend?

Thanks a lot.

It asks if you are dating (probably only one person, but not necessarily); boy/girlfriend status may or may not apply.

Hi,
Thanks Philip for your answer.
Do you mean it's not necessary that the person you are seeing is your boy/girlfriend?
Thanks a lot.

It generally means boyfriend/girlfriend.  In our usage, if someone asks you if you are seeing someone, they want to know if you are in a relationship.  I guess you could be casually seeing someone without a commitment but this is not what is genefrally meant.

Hi cwtch,
Thanks again for giving your comment.
'Are you dating someone' and 'are you seeing someone' mean the same?

What do you mean by 'a commitment' here?

Thanks a lot.

To be in a committed relationship means that you are exclusive.  You are not dating anyone else.  This understanding can be stated or it can just be understood.  After a certain length of time, it is generally unstood that you are a couple.
