Seem like vs. seem that

Is there any difference between "seem like" and "seem that"?

For example:
It seems that I have no friends.
It seems like I have no friends.

Is one better than the other?

The second (with "like") is much more informal.
You might use the first in a written essay, and the second in a conversation with a friend.
