Is the following sentence correct?

The injured man was sent to hospital.

Yes, like dispatched in an ambulance.
Or,
He was asked to go to the hospital.

Thus, it's open to different interpretations, but correct.

But you should have "sent to a/the hospital".

Hi

To my personal knowledge, hospital  in the sentence does not require any determiner.

The injured man was sent to hospital. 

But you should have "sent to a/the hospital".

In BrE, the article is not needed in the above sentence and similar sentences below.

I went to market with Mother.

The criminal was taken to prison.
