Hi,

I have a following paragraph:

We are pleased to offer a special advertising rate for the year of $8400. You will also receive a double page spread for your story at a value of $4200 in return for company sponsorship to Viet nam.

1/ What is the meaning of sponsorship here?

2/ Is sponsorship an uncountable noun?

3/What is the meaning of to here?

4/What is the meaning of  in return for company sponsorship to Viet nam here?

5/ Here is the emaning of this paragraph:

I pay only $8400 /year and I receive:

$8400/year for advertising + a double page spread  (=$4200)

Is that right? Do you think of other meanings?

Hi,

Welcome to the Forum.

We are pleased to offer a special advertising rate for the year of $8400. You will also receive a double page spread for your story at a value of $4200 in return for company sponsorship to Viet nam.

I can't answer your questions because I don't fully understand this out-of-context paragraph. You normally 'sponsor someone to do something', meaning  'you help or support them in some activity'.

So, what does company sponsorship to Viet nam mean? If company A sponsors person B to Vietnam, what will company A actually do? What will person B actually do? Does it perhaps mean that company A will pay for person B's plane ticket to Vietnam?

If we can clarify this, it will make it easier to answer your questions about this paragraph.

Best wishes, Clive

I'm also not sure what you are getting from the publication for your $8400. You get the double-page spread... but what do you get each issue? Full color? Black and white? A quater-page? Full page? There is just not enough information.

Hi,

Yes,Clive, it means that company A will pay for person B's plane ticket to Vietnam.

Yes, full color, full page, Geek.

So, my questions are:

1/ Is sponsorship an uncountable noun?

2/What is the meaning of to here? (Does to Viet Nam mean to go to Viet Nam?)

3/What is the meaning of  in return for company sponsorship to Viet nam here?

4/ For me, the meaning of this paragraph is:

I pay only $8400 /year and I receive:

$8400/year for advertising + a double page spread  (=$4200)

Is that right? Do you think of other meanings?

Best regards

1/ Is sponsorship an uncountable noun? It can be count or noncount, depending on context and meaning.

2/What is the meaning of to here? (Does to Viet Nam mean to go to Viet Nam?) It seems to mean 'for someone to go to Vietnam'.

3/What is the meaning of  in return for company sponsorship to Viet nam here? You supply the sponsorship money, and in return 'we' will give you a spread worth $4200.

4/ For me, the meaning of this paragraph is:  . . .

To me, this is the meaning. I pay $8,400 to get advertising for one year. In addition, if I pay to sponsor someone's trip to Vietnam, I also receive a double-page spread for my story.

Best wishes, Clive
