The coppery sun skimmed the horizon.

What does the sentence mean? Is this a good sentence to use in a composition?

Thanking in advance.

Yes, it is a good sentence. It means: the sun was low in the sky, (sunrise, sunset, winter, etc.) and due to its low altitude its colour was similar to that of copper (orange/yellow/golden).
