Hi Everyone.

Is there anyone who is able to analyse a sentence in terms of form and function down to word level?

I'll give you an example of what I mean:

The boys like the girls

like = V:VP

the boys = S:NP   --> where 'the' = determiner and 'boys' = Head:Noun

the girls = DO:NP   --> where 'the' = determiner and 'girls' = Head:Noun

V = Verb

VP = Verb Phrase

S = Subject

NP = Noun Phrase

DO = Direct Object

I dealing with a very complex one right now, and I'm rather lost with some parts of it, so I hope that someone is familiar with this kind of analysis:-)

Regards Jay

In Japan today even dogs are learning how to bow-wow in English.
