Alexa toolbar facilitates the sending of files that carries information about what has been downloaded from a homepage to Alexa.

Alexa toolbar facilitates the sending of files to Alexa that carries information about what has been downloaded from a homepage.

Both might sound confusing, ambigious, I think.

Files that contain info about what has been downloaded from a homepage are sent to Alexa with the help of Alexa toolbar.

Maybe this sounds clearer.

I would like to invite opinions.

  1. Alexa toolbar facilitates the sending of files that carries information about what has been downloaded from a homepage to Alexa.
  2. Alexa toolbar facilitates the sending of files to Alexa that carries information about what has been downloaded from a homepage.
  3. Files that contain info about what has been downloaded from a homepage are sent to Alexa with the help of Alexa toolbar.

If we want to explain the use of Alexa toolbar, then 1st sentence construction is best. However, the sentence needs some rephrasing.

Alexa toolbar facilitates the transmission of files carrying information about what has been downloaded from a homepage to Alexa.

I find it confusing.  Could you spell out exactly what facilitates means, and, perhaps use more than one sentence?

The verb looks a little strange to me. I would say:

1. Alexa toolbar facilitates the sending of files that carry information about what has been downloaded from a homepage to Alexa.

The "sending" doesn't "carry information"; the files do.

To facilitate  => To make easy or easier: political agreements that facilitated troop withdrawals.

The Alexa toolbar facilitates the transmission of files to Alexa => The Alexa toolbar makes it easier for the transmission of files to Alexa.

Hi,

In "the sending of files that", 'sending' and 'that' belong together -- yes, indeed.
In "the sending of files carrying" the files carry. Do you know any other paraphrase which include 'that'?
By the way, why is 'transmit' better than 'send'?

Compare the numbers of hits.
Last but not least, thank you all.

Alexa toolbar facilitates the sending of files carrying information about what has been downloaded from a homepage, to Alexa.
Is this sentence correctly punctuated?

Hello Inchoate

I'd omit the final comma.

"the sending of files" => 770 Google hits

"the transmission of files" => 834 Google hits

"the transmission of data" => 1,810,000 hits

"the sending of data" => 51,000 hits

Transmission as a noun from the verb "to transmit" is much more commonly used than "sending" from "to send".
