Can someone help me fix this? Run-ons are so hard to avoid. This sentence should be two but I can't figure out the correct wording:

Yes, I am looking to relocate northwest of Houston (preferably the Phoenix area, where I have family).

Thanks in advance,

Heidi

Heidi,   it's not  bad as it is except that I'd suggest a couple of cosmetic changes. 'Yes, I am looking to relocate northwest of Houston, preferably to the Phoenix area where I have family.' If you want to make two sentences of it, you could say, 'Yes, I am looking to relocate northwest of Houston. I would prefer the Phoenix area because I have family there.'

Heidi, I don't see anything wrong with it as is.

I think breaking it up into two is less confusing. Thanks! I don't know why it gave me so many problems... (probably looked at it too long!)

Cheers,

First of all, as one who lives in Phoenix, Arizona, I have to say we're almost 1,200 miles WEST of HoustonSmile [:)]

Here are some suggestions:

  • Yes, I am looking to relocate northwest of Houston.  I prefer the Phoenix area where I have family.
  • Yes, I'm looking to relocate northwest of Houston.  I prefer the Phoenix area where I have family.
  • Yes, I am looking to relocate northwest of Houston.  I prefer the Phoenix area where my family resides.
  • Yes, I'm looking to relocate northwest of Houston.  I prefer the Phoenix area where my family resides.
  • Yes, I am looking to relocate northwest of Houston.  My preference is the Phoenix area where I have family.
  • Yes, I'm looking to relocate northwest of Houston.  My preference is the Phoenix area where I have family.
  • Yes, I am looking to relocate northwest of Houston.  My preference is the Phoenix area where my family resides.
  • Yes, I'm looking to relocate northwest of Houston.  My preference is the Phoenix area where my family resides.

Hope this helps.

I google-searched for "relocate northwest" and came up with zero examples in the meaning implied here. Don't you think we ought to say "relocate to the Northwest of Huston, relocate to northwest Huston, relocate to somewhere in the Northwest of Huston, etc."?

Yes, I am looking to relocate northwest of Houston.

The above sentence seems to mean that I am actually move "northwest of Huston" to somewhere else.

What do you think?
