Are these sentences correct?If not, please correct them.

1/ Why does it have the meaning in my original sentence but it doesn't have the meaning on its own?

2/  What is the writing rule here? 

3/ When you work for a company, there is a "book" in which they decribe your amount of money that you can receive when retirement.
