Hi,

What is the difference in meaning between:

1. Please choose the correct sentence. The speaker thinks there is only one that is correct.

2. Please choose the correct sentences. The speaker thinks that more than one is correct.

3. Please choose correct sentences. The speaker thinks that some may be correct.

Best wishes, Clive

All 3 are correct. 1 is the most utilized, for the reasons Clive gave you.

Quoc
You should have named the above sentence "(4)."
Having two different sentences both indicated as (1) in the same thread is confusing.
Your last sentence ( "Please choose correct sentence." ) is not correct.

1/ Hi Clive,

You wrote:

The speaker thinks that more than one is correct. (5)

IMO, (5) is wrong.  The correct sentence is:

The speaker thinks that more than one are correct. (6)

How about your opinion?

2/ Is this sentence correct?

What are correct?

If yes, what is the difference in meaning between  What are correct? and What is correct? ?

Hi Quoc,

The speaker thinks that more than one are correct. (6)

How about your opinion? Swan's Practical English Usage (Section 431) notes that 'more than one is followed by a singular . . . .verb'.

2/ Is this sentence correct?

What are correct? It sounds very odd to me. I'd say 'which are correct?'

Best wishes, Clive
