Hello.

In volleyball game, a game starts from ”serve”. When a player hits the ”serve” back over the net, do you call it ”reception” or ”serve reception” or ”return”? I heard that people in America usually call it "return" . But I heard it's ok to call it "recepiton" as well.  I’m confused. I simply want to use the term ”reception”. Please help me. By the way, can I say the same thing for tennis?

Thanks

I would call it a return in volleyball and tennis. Reception to American ears means a completed pass in American Football. Though, the two players can be called server and receiver.
