What's the difference between shift, switch and change??

Do you say," I switched the VCD to DVD," or" I switched out the VCD to DVD?"

Is switch A to B correct?

In most contexts, there is very little difference between switch and change.  You can easily go back and forth between things you switch or change, like channels on your television.

Switch out is the same as replace, but isn't very common, at least in the US. Once you've switched out, you're probably not going back to the prior version.

Shift is used in fewer contexts. "Let's shift gears here" doesn't mean literally changing gears in your car (though it CAN), but "let's change the topic." Shifting also shows a transition from one phase to the next.  We've shifted from the planning phase to the execution phase of the project, for example.

I don't know what a VCD is, so I can't tell you about your sentence.  But "I switched from the sports channel to the news" would use a from A to B construction.

Video Compact Disc, also known as Video CD or VCD, is a standard format to register videos on CDs. Video CD can be read by PCs, specific readers and many DVD readers.

I translated this from Italian to English, so I'm not sure whether you'll understand everything or not, but this one is the best definition I could find.

Hope this helps,

It would be "Switch or Change"!!!

If you need a translation into English, you need to say what the Italian words are that you want translated.
If you need a translation into Italian, you may be at the wrong site!  Smile [:)]
